THE GILBERT FAMILY HISTORY - Homepage

Last updated 27th October 2023

This website was created and maintained by Richard Gilbert who sadly passed in May 2023. He invested a huge amount of time and effort into gathering the information presented here and creating this portal to share it with others who may be interested. The site will remain up to honour his commitment. Anyone interested in sharing information on the families listed here or who have enquiries or just want to get in touch, please contact me, his son, David Gilbert at gilberd3@gmail.com. Thank you for visiting.

This document is being created as a comprehensive record of the Gilbert family that flourished in the 1700s and 1800s in the area of Waldron, East Sussex, and later in Eastbourne. It also looks at the connections with other families over four centuries, although it does not engage in serious research into other families. Having said that, Richard Gilbert (1894-1988) put a lot of effort into researching the family of his mother Ellen I.Gilbert, whose maiden name was Morris, and the results of those efforts deserve reproducing in this record; so the Morris entry is very extensive.
