1810 - 1867 Rev. WILLIAM JABEZ FELLINGHAM

Born; 16 February 1810, Suffolk
Parents; John Fellingham (born 1 August 1786, Suffolk, died 2 May 1858) = Anne "Annie" Johnson (born 13 February 1971, Monk Soham, Suffolk, died 29 January 1866, Verona, Illinois)
Married (1); Sarah Mills, born 1812 in England. Died 1848 in Kendall, Illinois.
Children; Ephraim (born before 1837), Betsey C. (born after 1837).
Reportedly they all moved from New York (1837), to Kendall (1846), to Grundy County, Illinois (1848).
Married (2); Mary A.Gilbert (1825-1894) on 1 January 1857.
Children; Emeline Amelia (1857-1924), Elsie Ophelia (1860-1918), Gilbert Jabez (1861-1935), Frank Bobbit (1865-1938).

William was the older brother of George Fellingham who married Naomi Gilbert (born 1834), and was apparently a Baptist minister in Verona. Kevin Rucker, a descendant of Mary's line wrote in 1998;
"My grandmother used to tell us this story. William [Fellingham]'s wife shortly after arriving in the U.S. [about 1837] decided to return to England to her family [another descendant, Jim Pool, said that she died in Kendall in 1848]. Later, when William was single again, him and his brother George were hanging around the train station. I guess the train station was the 'gathering place' back then. Many people were still coming from England and many times relatives were arriving after coming to the US. Anyway William and George were there and, all of a sudden, William spotted a young girl getting off the train. Evidently this girl must have really caught his eye! William and George watched her and her family arriving with her belongings. William told George 'That's the girl I'm going to marry!' and proceeded to find a way to introduce himself. Within a year William and Mary Gilbert were married. And evidently George must have asked her if she had a sister. George and Mary's younger sister, Naomi Gilbert, were married the following year."
Died; 10 August 1867, Grundy County, Illinois.
