The Lewes Journal of 6 March 1797 reports that John Trayton Fuller commands two troops of volunteers in the Rape of Pevensey. Was this John's father? Probably not.
Eileen de Mattos (great-great-grand-daughter of John) wrote to Richard Gilbert in 1980; "Mother always believed we came from Sir Francis Drake - in looks he seems to be a Chandler. He spent his teenage in Holland.....Mother's grandmother was a Miss Fuller. I have her photograph and I think she does look Dutch...I have just found the Fuller tree 1581-1887, and the name Sir Francis Drake does appear."
Of course that may all be nonsense.
