In June 2001 an email was sent to H R Gilbert from "Lyndall", Australia as follows;
"I have a set of BVRI and have just had a look for an Edward LENEY born circa 1831 and this is what was thrown up: Edward Leney, christened: 21 August 1831, St.Thomas, Lewes, SSX. Father: Isaac LENEY, mother: Mary Ann. I then did a siblings search and came up with children born to an Isaac & Mary Ann LENEY from 1814 until 1833. If all these children were, in fact, born to the same couple (they were all christened in St Thomas'), then the Isaac born in 1797 would be rather young to have been the father of a child born in 1814 - though, of course, it is possible. However, there was another Isaac born in Hartfield in 1788, the son of Abraham and Mary, and brother to my 3x Great-grandfather."
"However, I think that the children born between 1814 and 1823 were probably born to one set of Isaac & Mary Ann, while those (including your Edward) born between 1829 and 1833 were born to another couple carrying the same names."

Cornelius was washed overboard in the Atlantic (off southern Greenland, at 51.55 N, 37.50 W) from the Brixham-based merchant schooner 'Kayoshle'(?), on which he was serving as chief officer. A letter was sent from Robert Tamlin, master of the vessel, to Ebenezer Morris announcing the death. The ship was laying to in a heavy gale when he was swept overboard. The crew saw him struggling but were unable to effect a rescue as the sea smashed both their boats and washed the lifebuoy away. A similar letter was written to Mrs.Morris. Both letter were probably donated to the East Sussex Records Office in May 2003.
